We have conducted thermal assessment on many newly built homes since we launched the project. We use a slightly different approach when we are called out to survey buildings or extensions that are still under warranty. When it comes to “First Retrofit”, also known as “shallow retrofit”, the majority of our customers feel confident enough to undertake remedial action by themselves (Although not everyone has time for DIY projects. We are mindful of that.) However, when it comes to new-builds, we should expect to see no thermal faults in the fabric of the building but sadly, this is often not the case. In these instances our approach is also to provide evidence to present to the builders and building developers.

Anyone interested can check whether a developer company has registered with the New Homes Quality Code or not. Developers are not obliged to sign up to the scheme. There are currently 467 companies who signed up voluntarily. Contracting a company that is listed in this data base gives the purchaser greater legal protection in case the delivery doesn’t meet industry standards.
